SUMMARY
This Job Training Report is entitled “The Strategies for increasing the interest of listeners of English Time program in Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Semarang”. This report is written from the result of job training done in the Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Semarang from February 1st 2016 to February 21st 2016. The methods used to collect the data are observation, interview, literature study, and direct practice method. The purpose of this job training is to investigate the strategies used by RRI Semarang to increase the interest of listeners of English Time Program, obstacles encountered in increasing the interest of listeners, and the solutions to the
obstacles encountered in increasing English Time program. RRI Semarang is the
only Indonesia state radio in Semarang. This radio station provides national and
international news. The news and information programs broadcasted both in
Indonesian and English. The English program in RRI Semarang is “English Time”. English Time is an interactive dialogue program using English. The program provides information, entertainment, and English education for free.
There are several strategies to increase the interest of listeners of English Time program. They are becoming a media partner, creating English Time program to be the best program in RRI Semarang, making an interactive quiz, asking famous communities to become the guest stars, making off air agenda and using has social media. There are some obstacles that RRI Semarang to increase the interest of listeners of English Time program. They are technical and non-technical obstacles. The technical obstacles are broken broadcasting equipments, problem in
providing up to date information, off air promotion, and the quality and quantity of human resources in English Time program. The non-technical obstacles is comprise long time needed to choose the theme. The solutions for obstacles are maintaining broadcasting equipments daily, give chance for people to do job training, add more things for off air and do some events or competition to find young announcers for English Time program
