This research entitled ―An Analysis of Preference Organization on The Ellen Show‘s Guest Interview Season 12‖ is aimed at finding out the types of preference organization and the second part uttered by the host and the guests in talk show. The Ellen Show‘s guest interviewseason 12. The field of this research is pragmatics which is the study of utterance meaning as communicated by a speaker and interpreted by a listener. This research used qualitative study in analyzing the data. The data source of this research is talk show The Ellen Show. This research used 5 videos of The Ellen Show‘s guest interview season 12. The data were analyzed using theory of preference organization by Levinson. Later, the second parts of the preference organization were explained by examining thefeatures and transcriptions notations of the utterances. The result of this research
shows that in total there are 91 pairs of utterance which contain preference organizations. The data are classified as follows: 4 data of request, 2 data of invitation, 36 data of assessment, 41 data of question, and 8 data of blame. The
most dominant type is question which represents incompleteness of information which is frequently found in talk show. Most of questions found in the talk show are in the form of doubt expressions which makes expected answer (preferred
second of question) becomes the most dominant second. It means that the questions asked by the host (Ellen) tend to provide positive responses rather than negative ones. In accordance with this research, turn-taking analysis of talk show
