Abstrak :
The Correctional Center is a correctional technical implementation unit that carries out the
duties and functions of social research, guidance, supervision and mentoring carried out by
Community Counselors. Child criminals have rights that need to be granted in accordance
with the governing law. The Correctional Center as a correctional facility is obliged to provide
legal protection when providing guidance, supervision and assistance. The results of the
research show that the effectiveness of the Correctional Center (BAPAS) in the Legal
Protection of Child Criminal Offenders at the Yogyakarta Class I Correctional Center and the
obstacles faced by the Correctional Center (BAPAS) in the Legal Protection of Child Criminal
Offenders at the Yogyakarta Class I Correctional Center. This research uses a sociological
juridical approach. The data sources used are primary data in the form of interviews with
resource persons from Community Counselors and perpetrators of juvenile crimes at the
Yogyakarta Class I Correctional Center and secondary data in the form of literature studies
that are relevant to this research. The results of the research show that the effectiveness of the
Yogyakarta Class I Correctional Center in legal protection for juvenile criminals is carried
out through guidance, supervision and assistance from pre-adjudication, adjudication, to post-
adjudication, has not been effective, because there are juvenile criminals who have not
received the rights they have. The obstacles to the Yogyakarta Class I Correctional Center are
the constraints of inadequate infrastructure and the environment for children and families as
well as the legal culture of law enforcement officers.
