This research is aimed at analyzing types of sign and knowing the semiosis process that are occured in the 2017 Jakarta Governor Election caricatures published in The Jakarta Post (September 2016 - April 2017). The field of this research is semiotics which is the study of sign system to know how the signs are correlated each other in conveying certain meaning. This research uses descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data which are 11 caricatures about the 2017 Jakarta governor election in The Jakarta Post. The results of this research show that first, there are 27 icons, 25 indexes, and 30 symbols. The icons of the caricatures are the pictures of the Jakarta candidate pairs (Agus-Sylvi, Ahok-Djarot, and Anies-Sandi), political chairpersons as the backers of each Jakarta candidate pair (Megawati, SBY, and Prabowo), and all the visual images regarding Jakarta governor election. The picture of Ahok is the most dominant icon of the caricatures. It is due to the fact that Ahok carries a lot of
controversies. Then, the caption texts of the caricatures, body movements and facial expressions of the person being caricatured are the indexical signs. It shows cause and effect of the problems during the election. Furthermore, the symbols are the
pictures of the caricatures and gestures of the person being caricatured showing certain meaning when they are related to the context of the caricatures. The meaning that is found in the caricatures explained contextually. Second, the semiosis process are clearly reflected by the relation among representamen, object, and interpretant. The meaning depicted by the caricatures of Jakarta governor election are mostly about religion and race.
